Suggestions for diverticulosis w/severe pain in the sigmoid colon?

I have mild diverticulosis but have severe pain in the sigmoid colon always after a normal bowel motion This can last for hours. All test clear and no answers from gastroenterologist and nothing for the pain Hence anxiety and depression I make sure I excercise daily and eat properly I have had this on and off for years but now at 80 I am having the pain daily Any suggestions ?

I do not know if my reply went through or not.As I was saying I have diverticulitis/colitis.I find that a bland diet is good.I eat roast chicken,carrot mashed with parsnip and potatoes mashed or just boiled for dinner.I may have a cheese sandwich for tea.I still have flares but the diet is a help.

What is involved in having your sigmoid colon removed please.? This has not been suggested but could be an option in the future thankyou

@cardigan Thankyou It doesn’t matter what I eat the pain always comes Seems like a functional disorder but what .The experts have no answers and my once full life is now really compromised as the pain in so severe and keeps me hiding out at home

Yes I have that left sided pain from time to time also.I try to eat small but healthy meals to avoid bulking up the bowel.

I think you are more likely to have the pain if the bowel is bulked and and some of that bulk gets into the diverticula.

Could be but the pain starts After I have a bowel motion but maybe it is not fully emptied I do eat small simple meals and weigh 52 kilos at 5ft 3. I will try eating smaller and more often but then it will eventually build up I don’t experience the pain at night. Kicks in about 6am when I Wake At least I get some sleep Tha kyou so much for your reply 🌷

I have had diverticulitis 4 times since 2021. Everytime put on Augmentin and then acqure yellow diarrhea. Anyone else get that complication from Augmention. I guess the yellow color is what startles me and the diarrhea can be explosive on occasion. It goes away once I’m off the Augmentin. Also, the gas trapped in stomach isn’t disappearing as quickly as it normally does in past bouts. It’s slowly getting better, but perhaps this time I waited too long to go to ER. Thank you for any input.

@mtpeony We all search for many remedies that do not require a prescription. I did like this tea, and it did help with relaxing the pain.
I had my surgery in Mar. 2024
