Statin discontinued due to neuropathy. What are some alternatives?

If you'd like to read up on the Apple Cider Vinegar you can go to https://www.google.com/search. But read the directions carefully and also the reviews. It hasn't 'damaged' me in any way so I continue to take it until I find another Cardiologist that's not into 'pushing drugs'! My main problem is my balance. After extensive research and several doctor and Chiropractor visits I've realized that the Myelin Sheath surrounding the peripheral nerves in my feet have been damaged by taking a statin. Therefore it takes the signal that tells my brain where 'in space' my feet are at any given time too long which causes the imbalance. As far as a cure for PN...the doctors cop-out is that "everyone is different" which absolves them from making any definitive statement about the drugs or the 'cure'.

Have been off the statins for about 3 months. Still numbness in feet and lower legs.. no better but no worse. Would be interested to see if the apple cider vinegar is helpful with cholesterol!
Mine isn’t real high but I did have a partially blocked artery many years ago and have been on high dosage statin for past twenty years. Numbness slowly developing starting with the Sock under toes feeling. Not totally numb.. kind of like John describes his.

Does your doctor think that being off the statin or taking the vinegar is making the most impact on your cholesterol at this point, dutchman09? Is your neuropathy any different after discontinuing the statin?

Are you able to share how you were diagnosed or any treatments you use that help you with your symptoms?

my doctor wants me on crestor with a cholesterol of 215. I am recovering from base of tongue cancer and am still anemic and not normal as yet. I see no reason to drag my cho0lestrol down to below 150 just to make him happy with his prognosis. He also advised it would make my type 2 diabetes worse or give it to me if I didnt have it already.
I have a friend taking a statin and his blood glucose levels get to 200 and then he takes insulin to bring it down, and he was a mild type 2 with morning glucose about 120, which was then controlled by metformin. So I'd be cautious about taking this junk

History of long term statin use at high dose.
Loss of feeling in feet and lower legs. Have now discontinued statin... any Chance of recovery. ??

I stopped taking the generic version of Crestor last October 15, 2018. I now take one tablespoon of Bragg® Organic Raw-Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with the "Mother" mixed in an 8 oz. glass of apple juice every morning on an empty stomach. Do not take a higher dose or drink it out of the bottle because it could damage your esophagus. You can find it in a 16 oz.bottle in most large grocery stores. You might want to look it up on line. The last time I went to my Nephrologist she said my Cholesterol was "well within the range for my age group".

After extensive research over the past year there is no doubt in my mind that being prescribed Crestor for 8 years is the only and absolute cause of my contracting PN.

After my heart attack on February 8, 2010 I was introduced to a local Cardiologist who started me on Plavix, Metoprolol Tartrate, Isosorbide and Crestor. After being diagnosed with PN I discontinued the Crestor on Oct. 15. 2018 and the Plavix on April 20, 2019 at the suggestion of another doctor because I also take 81 mg aspirin. Never during the 8 years of' 'treatment' was I told any Cholesterol level numbers, just that it was high and that I also had diabetes when on my last office visit to this Cardiologist HER own test results showed my Glucose at 101 and I blame my own naive 'respect' for the medical profession for not wanting to second guess this woman until it was too late! I am stuck with this condition and after consulting 27 legal offices was repeatedly told that all the court cases, judgements and class action suites against statins and Astrazeneca (the maker of Crestor) were closed. After extensive research there is no doubt in my mind that this is the only cause for my contracting PN.
