Diplopia (Double Vision) Help!

Posted by ashby1947 @ashby1947, Jun 7, 2019

After Tube Shunt surgery for Glaucoma, I am left with Diplopia, or double vision. Surgery was successful - good, Diplopia - bad. I'm adjusting to corrective lenses in glasses; however, I only wear the glasses for computer and reading. My vision is fine without any correction for distance. I do not need glasses for driving or watching TV, for example. When I walk around the house, I cannot wear the corrective lenses. My balance is definitely affected. Has anyone gone though adjusting to this sort of situation? All comments welcome!

I experienced double vision after Sepsis, it also affected my ability to read. After working with a neurologist, it was because of brain damage. I could not read on any kind of adult level which meant I had to leave my job. Slowly, my sight improved and not to the original level. My eye doctor, suggested putting a prism in my eye glasses. I paid $35 bucks extra when my eye Rx was filled. It helped, I only had bouts of double vision and he said this works better for someone with constant double vision. A month later a MRI was performed and it showed brain damage after being intubated. The damage was attributed to TBI (Traumatic Brain Damage) that was part of the sepsis trauma. I just had cataract surgery and functioned at the legally blind level, after surgery the only glasses I need are +2 readers from the drugstore. I am looking for a monograph TBI and effects on vision. I'll try to find the email address and send it via Mayo Connect or your private email. Hang in There.

Do you still have double vision? I started seeing double at age 18. I am now 59. It happened the night before my consultation with an eye doctor. Not sure if prism glasses will help me. Do you know of non profit organization that has help with people coping with double vision

I am also glad that I am not alone on this issue.
Thank you for replying.
I saw double even before I had the surgery..I still see double today. It comes and goes. I have vertical diplopia. Images on top of each other.
I have learned to cope with my double vision but it has hurt me getting certain jobs.

Yes. I understand the double vision problems. Years ago, I had the strbismus (?) surgery in one eye, but it never helped that much. I have dealt with this for years, myself. It is very frustrating trying to get focused to see correctly. I saw triple at one time, but that doesn't happen much anymore. I was sent to a dounle vision specialist, but he said there is nothing he can do for me because I have so many other eye diseases. He said just to be sure to keep up on my glasses Rx, to be sure they are adding the prisms. I just went to the Dr and had to get a new Rx, so all three of my glasses had to be updated to the tune of $1k! And that was after my vision insurance! [That day, I had to pay that out for the glasses and then I got home & got the mail, and I owed over $3k for my home ins and $1300 for my aut ins, to I was in debt over $5300 in one day!!] I am 78 yrs old & living on SS, so llife has gotten very difficult. Ain't life fun??! 😂

Do you still see double or triple vision. I haven't had the high cost like you have had.
The last time I went to the eye doctors. I had them do a special test on me. They tried to simulate my eyesight to correct my double vision. They got it close but the images were still on top of each other.
I just recently discovered that I might have signs of being autistic because of my strabismus and diplopia. It has been difficult on dealing with both issues. Life is difficult but I get through.
