Digoxin use.. Just beginning to use this drug to regulate heart rate.
I' m an 86 year old female . Using metoprolol succinate, Midodrine and Eliquis to regulate heart rate. Very hard to keep out of hypotension zone. Beginning new use of Digoxin. Would like to hear from anyone using Digoxin. Midodrine use is very up and down, no real stabilization.

My mother had congestive heart failure. She was on Digoxin to make her heart beat stronger and a vasodilator
to open her arteries. She also took furosemide, the water pill, to clear her lungs. She kept getting thinner. Over time her heart kept getting weaker until she died.
Thanks for your replay. My mother was also on Digitalis, as I remember. Think I inherited my parents' medical conditions; cancer and heart problems. Helps to know family history if possible. The Digoxin seems to be regulating heart beat, but Midodrine is only a temporary help to increase blood pressure for about three hours. Takes a while to figure out how each prescription is working'
My cardiologist’s nurse practitioner just started me on digoxin, 125mcg once a day. I have been taking Eliquis 5mg twice a day and 12.5 mg metoprolol twice a day. I spent the 4th of July in the hospital overnight after heart rates of 120-150 for 24 hours. They gave me i.v. metoprolol twice and i.v diltiazem once. They increased my metoprolol to 25mg twice a day. I was good for 2 days then went into Afib again. They are recommending that I have a cardio version. I have called for an appointment to do this. I’m not sure what I will be taking after this procedure.
Cardio adversuon just puts you back into rhythm. I’m amazed the ER didn’t do it. You’re sedated for 2 minutes and it’s done.
I’ve had it done once and I take metoprolol and warfarin(I’m allergic to Eliquis)
They want me on an antiarythmic med but for now I’m choosing accupuncture to calm my nerves and to stimulate the vagus nerve that calms my gas bubble that seems to trigger my Afib.
Hi,
I'm 84, and male. My EP has also put me on Digoxin, after taking most other meds trying to slow down my HR, the 125 mg didn't do much and tried to go to 250mg, which I couldn't tolerate, so went back to 125 mg. It didn't stop Afib, as in 90%. After one ablation and 2 cardio-versions he wants to burn off the AV node, as I already have the larger pacemaker/ICD. I'm kinda draging my feet over concern. Will soon see what by ejection factor looks like next month. It's in the 30s, which is a concern too. Any advice appreciated.
I'm an 89yr old female. Have had diagnosed AFib for about 12 years. Had blackouts after becoming overheated at different times and didn't know what was the cause. Been told by my cardiologist I am not a canidate for pacemaker, or ablation. Still trying to figure out the best way to regulate blood pressure with medicine. Been feeling much better with Digoxin.at noon, But still regulating with Eliquis morning and night and Metoprolol Succinate (if lower than 100) mornings. This has eliminated dizzy spells, blackouts and uncontroled heart beats. Flutters are still there. Hope you find the right combo to your problems. Weakness is still a big factor in life, but part of age.
My mother had congestive Heart failure and was on Digoxin to make her heart beat stronger.
She also took a vasodilator to open her arteries.
@lenmayo , I’m sorry about your mother. Do you mind saying what her heart issue was originally? Or did she just start with arrhythmia trouble? And, how long did she have her symptoms?
My dad had afib after cardiovascular issues, heart attack, quadruple bypass, stents, etc. He treated his Afib successfully with meds then cardioversion.
Now, my mom who is 84 is having issues. Abnormal 2 week heart monitor results, has fatigue, flutter, prescribed Diltiazem until return appointment. I’m anxious until then. My mom has medication anxiety, so……..
My mother was on prescription strength Naproxen for arthritis.
Over time it made a hole in her duodenum which she had emergency patched.
The result was congestive heart failure. She was taking the two drugs -a vasodilator to open her arteries and one to make her heart beat stronger. She kept returning to the hospital for stabilization. She kept getting weaker and didn't make it home the last trip.
@lenmayo , thanks for sharing how things progressed with your mother. That must have been a rough time for you all.
I’ll be accompanying my mom to the doctor to review the test results. I’ve noticed her increased fatigue and lack of mobility. She also has a hiatal hernia.Of course, the fatigue and unwell feelings could be due to the loss of my dad that occurred only a couple of weeks ago. She’s taking it really hard. I hesitate to leave her alone for even short periods of time. Considering placement in AL or NH. I’ve also considered something called the widowhood factor.
