Difficulty with urination at night

Posted by Tbone65 @capnhal, 3 days ago

I'm 81, have been on Tamsulosin and Finasteride for a decade or more for BPH. Lately I'm getting up more at night and have difficulty voiding, though I'm fine during the day. I'm guessing the medications are losing their efficacy and I'm probably looking at some surgical intervention, but has anyone else had this experience?

Yes I did and it only got worse, so at 77 yrs I got the old fashioned intervention where the doctor removes some of the prostate that is squeezing it. There are less invasive ways today but they often don't last long enough. Now lately there are a lot more oral remedies offered that might shrink. The rout I took has left me with less sexual feeling which may come back in time, but that was 2 years ago. It certainly did take care of my constant bathroom trips.

Thanks for that response. The only medications I've been told about are Tamsulosin and Finasteride, and I'm on the max dose of both. Have you heard of anything else? I'm going to talk to my urologist, but the last conversation we had she said my next step is surgery of some sort. I've been reading about some of the laser and water ablation methods, which may be new since you had yours done. Guess I'll call for that appointment.
