Sharing a pregnancy when another family member can't conceive?
My husband‘s youngest daughter has been trying to get pregnant for a few years now they tried IVF with no success. My question or concern involves his oldest Granddaughter, who is less then 10 years younger than his daughter. Granddaughter told us last night. She is pregnant with (OMG) TRIPLETS!! Granddaughter wants to announce this to the family on Christmas. I talked to my husband about this after they left and he thinks there won’t be a problem. I’m very worried that his daughter will take this news very hard. I suggested that maybe we should tell daughter before the announcement so she can be prepared emotionally. I feel that if she is surprised with the news she won’t be able to control her feelings, which could make the mother to be sad or uncomfortable. Any in all suggestions on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.
In a side note, I am not a new stepmom/ grandma I have been married to my husband for over 18 years and love them as much as my own.

@kimcj8, such a joyous and heart-wrenching situation wrapped into one for your family. Obviously, you want the family to rejoice in your granddaughter's pregnancy. Equally obvious is that this will be hard on your husband's daughter who has not yet been able to conceive. It is very thoughtful of you to think about her feelings and to help prepare her for an announcement that is likely to be highly emotional for her.
I think your decision to tell the daughter in advance has been made, but you may also be concerned about letting out the news that is meant to be revealed at Christmas. Do I have that right?
