Did anyone have a SAVI SCOUT marker placed prior to surgery?
I was diagnosed with DCIS stage 0, grade 3, ER & PR positive in my left breast in 2 areas 3 months ago. My surgery is scheduled for August 20. This Thursday, I'm having a SAVI SCOUT marker placed and wondered if anyone who has had this done can tell me if it's inserted the same way they insert a marker for a standard breast biopsy.....face down, breast positioned in a hole in the table, etc.?
Thanks community!

Hi All. I had the SAVI SCOUT done in two areas in my left breast last week. Yes, I was seated, not laying down like I was during my two biopsies to identify my cancer.. I was given 2 lidocaine injections for each area. Once the lidocaine was in, I felt no pain as the marker was placed, but the shots were uncomfortable. Thankfully, the process was quick and the technician and radiologist were every nice.
Yes, I had a SAVI Scout implanted two days before my surgery in January. Much like your experience, it was brief and painless.

Hello everyone. I will have the Savi scout done on Monday and just read all your comments. I am nervous and scared, but I feel a little better knowing it is less painful than the biopsy. I have had 3 biopsy. Two were ok but one was Grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma. Malignant and concordant. I was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023. I have been thru chemotherapy and radiation. I am a cancer survivor and hoping I can do as well with breast cancer. Early diagnosis is so important and because I was diagnosed early, I was able to beat lung cancer. I hope to have the same results with breast cancer. Thank you all for your comments.

3 ReactionsI had the savi scout too and was very nervous. However, between the biopsies I had, along with multiple mamo's and other tests, it was a breeze.

2 ReactionsMy situation is a little different. I had a needle biopsy done and the SAVI SCOUT was put in during that procedure. Here's how it was done. A small (1/4 to 1/2 inch) incision was made. Injected with local anesthetic. Removal of sample via a suction "needle" (in and out several times with guidance of ultrasound wand. After that was done, the Scout was inserted where the biopsy was taken. Glue incision to close. I was lying down face up for the entirety of this procedure. Afterwards, a "gentle" mammogram was done to verify placement of the Scout.
Hope this is helpful

1 ReactionHad one put in last Monday via mammogram. Not bad at all, no pain except the sting from the lidocaine injection. They have to check the placement several times with imaging but use low compression. My surgery is this Friday, good luck to you and a speedy recovery.
