Diagnosed with osteopenia
My bone scan showed osetopenia (probably due to taking prednisone 5 mg every day for PMR. I don't want to go on Fosamax or Prolia due the side effects of these drugs. I do take calcium 1600 mg, VIt D
5,000 iu daily. Is there anything else I can do to enhance bone health?

@donnabutcher , Thank you for the information. I never heard of a Quantatative CT. Please keep us updated on how the Evenity works.
I assume that stopping prednisone is not an option? Other treatments can include optimizing your diet, HRT, and increasing weight bearing exercise and lifting weights. This may help a bit but if your T-scores continue to decrease then medication may be required to slow bone loss. Your doctor should monitor your bone density to observe its trend over the next few years. If you are in osteopenia range then a conservative approach would be to address any nutritional deficits, eat a healthy diet that includes enough calcium (generally 800 to 1000 mg) per day, and find a good personal trainer and start lifting weights then see how your bone density changes over the next year or two.
