Diagnosed with large gallstones and cysts on ovaries in emergency room

Posted by selene43 @selene43, Nov 11, 2022

I was diagnosed with large gallstones in gallbladder and cysts on my ovaries in August 2022 at the emergency room. They did CT scan, ultrasound, blood work and chest xray. I was told to see a gi specialist and change my diet completely.
My symptoms were nausea, stomach pains, severe upper back pain, loss of appetite and weight loss. We are in november, several months later and I'm waiting on my gallbladder removal surgery in December. However, since August, I have changed my diet 100%, I only eat what I'm suppose to. I believe their is something more going on with me. November 1st I went to urgent care to get a referral for a surgeon, due to my insurance issue. I went to see a surgeon, he did blood work. My white blood cell count was 2.8 and alot of other things were low too. I'm 43 women. I haven't had a period in about 4-5 months. I'm nausea everyday with no appetite. I have lost 31 lbs since August. I'm constantly nausea, severe upper back pain, stomach crampy, dull pain aches, stiff neck, chills on and off, sweats, nervousness, racing heart, fatigue. I can barely get through a few hours at work. I'm fearing the worse, I honestly feel like I may have ovarian cancer. If my gallstones were a problem, my white blood cell count would be elevated not depleted? Please if anyone has any thoughts, opinions, knowledge, anything. No doctor is taking me seriously. I don't think it's just my gallbladder causing all these symptoms. Please help. Thank you

Hello @selene43 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Your symptoms sound overwhelming for sure. The fact that you have changed your diet completely at the advice of your doctor, is a huge win for you and your overall health so congratulations on that!

Often times, people's intuition alone is enough to seek a second opinion to confirm what you may feel in your gut just isn't quite right. Your gallbladder surgery is coming up fast in December, however, in the meantime, have you considered a second opinion to make sure you feel good about the initial diagnosis you've been given?

I went to the emergency room yesterday morning and was admitted. They said I have an inflamed gallbladder and infection. They are giving me antibiotics by IV, and recommends surgery tomorrow. However, the surgeon said I could wait until December 1st. I'm flying out on Wednesday to see family and won't be back until the 28th. I don't know if I should wait to have surgery or just do it tomorrow to get it over with.

Checking in @selene43. Did you decide to do surgery last week or wait until December? How are you doing?

Thank you for getting back to me. I decided I couldn't wait to do the surgery. I had surgery on Tuesday and didn't get discharged until Wednesday evening. I am feeling alot better, just really sore. I definitely couldn't wait until December.

So glad to hear that surgery was successful. A Thanksgiving gift.
