Has anyone experienced having HPV years after a total hysterectomy?
i started having problems recently, with what i thought i had a UTI. Turns out no UTI but squamous cells showed up in a cytology. In all my years of having pap smears> i have never been told i had HPV til now, did a pelvic pap last week and i have lots of the cells. worried it maybe cancer. anyone have this happened?

I had a hysterectomy like you years ago.
I was told years ago I had HPV. I get checked every year and so far everything keeps coming out OK.

Good luck in your research.

Hello! I’ve had a total hysterectomy but the HPV 18 came back on the vaginal cuff. It’s so frustrating when you think you should be in the clear with no cervix! Sorry to hear you have this, but you aren’t alone

I think it is Modern medicine. When I was in my 20s, the doctor said something about he saw something but no big deal. I think it was HPV, 30 years later, I’m told what I have as well.. I was married very young and so I don’t know where it came from.
I think medicine today are more upfront than they were when we were young so young people are finding out more sooner…. Also, they know more about HPV and the health issues it can cause like cancer
I am monitored yearly now for it, But it could’ve been much worse if I had never been told.
Do your homework read up on it and it will make you feel a little bit better. I was very careful and back in the 1960s in the 1970s. They didn’t even mention it. Today the young people are well aware of majority of things that we did not know
Wish you the best
