Hello I just have a concern.
Can you develop another disease for being on dialysis too long?

Good Morning, Abel.
I was on dialysis for several months from acute kidney failure, so my own experience about dialysis is limited. From my own viewpoint, and from what others have told me, the effects and living with dialysis is an individual thing, and so much depends on ones own health conditions as well as how they take care of themselves.

To get started, I am going to share information on Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis. These articles do mention self care as well as benefits and risks.

Abel, are you currently considering dialysis? Are you currently undergoing dialysis treatment?

Abel, I know someone that was on dialysis for almost 5 years and developed diabetes and then gout because of the diabetes. She was fairly careful with her diet and I am not sure if it was preventable.

Abel, Are you a candidate for an organ transplant?
