Struggling with anxiety while undergoing diagnostic testing

Posted by flow65 @flow65, Apr 17, 2022

I’m not sure if I have Dercum’s disease or not. Also not sure if it’s an autoimmune disease. I recently had an ultrasound done on my upper thighs. I felt small bumps under the skin. My dr felt some and had the ultrasound ordered. Some are tender. A couple of them painful. Not sure how many I have. I had to show the technician some of them. Results came back as lipomas. Supposedly non cancerous. My husband and I researched it. It could be a rare disease called Dercums. I also have GERD, anxiety, stress and now possibly this. Has anyone been dealing with this disease? Thank you

@flow65, just remember that I’m here for you tomorrow. You’re strong and you can deal with this. Finally getting an answer to what is wrong will make it all worth it!
Will you let me know how you do?

@flow65 when is your biopsy going to be? Soon, I hope! We’re you ever told why it was cancelled?

Suppose to see dr today. Not sure what he is going to do yet. Other appointment was cancelled because of death in drs family. So much going on with me and stressed out. Thank you for your concern.

Seen surgeon and looked at ultrasound report. Said they’re small. Unless they give me a lot of pain all the time or if I notice them growing. My PCP told me to see a surgeon and either have the ones that give me pain or at least a biopsy. Surgeon said he wouldn’t do anything right now. He’s sending report to my dr. So I guess it’s good. Sometimes never know who to believe. I have so much anxiety stress. So it probably will stay in my mind knowing they’re there and sensitive at times. Thank you.

@flow65. I’m so glad you got some answers. Now is the time to just sit outside (weather permitting) with a good book and a cup of tea. Enjoy the sunshine and cool breezes and allow yourself to relax. You’ve gotten good news so now is the time to move on with life. What treat can you give yourself?

Thank you for the encouraging words. Right now weather is junky. Can’t think of anything right now to treat myself. Have to go for a couple of tests in the middle of next month. Our adult daughter has some issues as well. The phrase when it rains it pours is certainly going on. So anxiety is still high. Some day maybe things will settle down. But trying meditation and deep breathing. Thanks again. I appreciate it.

I watch her faithfully! I have eczema and am always hoping for more information. I also have lipomas and cysts, and so do my siblings. I have a few small ones on my legs that hurt if I press on them.

@flow65 How have you been doing? You have some tests coming up this month—what are they for? Maybe use them as time to practice your slow breathing and relaxation.
I would love to hear from you. Becky

Thank you for thinking of me. Things just feel like piling up when you suffer from anxiety. I had to have a tooth pulled last week. That was traumatic dealing with anxiety everyday. Then after long trip from that I started spotting. I was so stressed out. The next day my husband and I went to immediate care. Had ultrasound done. No masses. But was told a little thickening of lining. My age of 66 was always told if you bleed it’s not good. Then physician assistant said ultrasound doesn’t pick up cancer. So I have to follow up with my gyne. I just had my checkup in March. I was even told at my age you don’t have to go every year. On her way out she even said if you have problems or bleed come back. Can’t see her this week. I hardly know her anyway. Only seen her twice. I’ll be seeing someone I don’t know. OMG. All of this more stress. I’m suppose to go for a scope/colonoscopy in June. I have GERD and should have the other end checked. I don’t do well with anesthesia. Plus having this anxiety I know it will be bad before and afterwards. I get nauseous and restless when I wake up and scared. I’ve been trying breathing exercise. Can’t relax. Just too much for me to handle. Nothing helps. My husband is always trying to help. I’m having trouble coping. I worry about everything. Scared of everything. Pandemic ruined me plus being a worrier. Sorry for such a long reply. Again thank you for your concern. Flo

@flow65 Please try to relax. Think of the wind blowing through the trees and a gentle wind chime. Let your mind concentrate on the breeze and gentle sounds, if your mind wanders to anxiety ares of your brain, just pull it back and concentrate on the gentle sounds again. You are a strong woman and you can do it.
Have you ever discussed this anxiety with you primary care doctor? Are you receiving any help?
