Dental work while on Reclast?

Posted by sebutler @sebutler, Feb 6, 2025

Has anyone had dental work done while on Reclast? Any problems, particularly if the dental work involved an extraction or an implant? A published survey found that cases of jaw necrosis occurred two or more years after beginning Reclast, but six years or more for patients on Fosamax.

@royal7916 There are so many differing opinions out there, from it's rare to it happens a lot.

How did your wife make out with the oral surgeon? Is she allowed to get her implants? I need an extraction/bone graft/implant on a broken tooth now. Have been on Prolia for 2 yrs. & last shot June 5. Ortho doc says ok to have the oral surgery end of Sept. (about 3 1/2 mos. from last shot). Then start something else like Reclast or oral Altelvia late Dec. to avoid Prolia withdrawal rebound. I'm concerned if 3 mos. is enough time for implant surgery to heal, or if I should only do extraction/bone graft now & have to wait until later next year to do implant?
