Dental care and MAC

I would like to know how and if people with MAC even go to the dentist?
My teeth are stained from the Linezolid. The water mist, spray going in nostrils and down throat seems like a prime place for mycobacteria.

It’s been a while since I worked in the dental field but we were required to replace all our water system going to the hand drills and sprays with an external water system. We had to change the water every day and we used bottled water. I hope that hasn’t changed. I know after I left the dental field the dentist I went to also had that system set up.

Thanks, it’s good to know that they are taking measures of the water system.
For me also is being a while that I don’t go. But I need it, just a concern if I am going to be able to hold my mouth open, coughing or breathing issues…I don’t know really, it’s going to be a challenge but we have to try anyway….

I remind my hygienist about not having water sprayed in my mouth. She will use the water device without air (makes it spray) so that it provides a small stream without spray and she keeps it toward the front of my mouth and uses a minimal amount of water.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It's interesting to hear how things were done in the dental field a while ago. While some practices may still use external water systems with bottled water, technology and regulations in dental offices have evolved over time. Many clinics now use advanced water filtration and treatment systems to maintain the highest hygiene standards. However, daily water changes and the use of external water systems may still be a common practice in certain areas or clinics. It's always fascinating to see how the field continues to improve!

Hi There!
Re: Dental Work
All through my journey with NTM/MAC (almost 2 1/2 years) and the constant cough, I was able to have needed dental work.
I discussed my situation with the Dentist and she and her staff were very patient with me. Hope that will be the case for you!

I read in a post a while back that one of the BE patients that comes to this site takes her own water.
So that is what I do and makes me feel a lot more comfortable.
The tech and dentist wear masks while working on me at my request.
