Dental appointment after 3 months of TKR

Posted by sandy19 @sandy19, Mar 30 12:57pm

I had left knee TKR on January 29. Have a periodontal appointment on May 6, which will be a little over 3 months from my surgery. I have also started taking Fosamax from March 1. Should I be concerned about my periodontal appt? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have read that antibiotics are deemed no longer necessary prior to dental appointments.
I will be 1 year post hip replacement as of 5/20/26. Is this correct?

I had my right knee replaced twice in the last year. Due to the first knee getting infected in surgery.
It’s been a very long 2.5 years. I still have a ways to go.
YES, take an antibiotic before dental procedures. Your PCP, Dentist or surgeon can prescribe.
Safe than sorry!!!

My surgeon got back to me and had given me a prescription of 2000 mg of amoxicillin to be taken prior to 1 hour of dental appt. Thanks for all the info.

Same. Postpone dental work for three months Take antibiotic prior to dental work, including cleanings. Continue this process for two years ( re: dental procedures)
