Degenerative discs lower spine, thoracic spine, neck: Fix the pain?

Posted by chma265 @chma265, Mar 28, 2022

Please help! I have degenerative discs lower spine, thoracic spine and neck. I’m only 51 years old and the condition is getting worse. I can only do about 2-3 hours of activity the whole day. I think I’m going crippled. Is there anything that can help me with pain and prolong the process.

@loriesco Hi. Would you mind sharing who your surgeon was (and the hospital?)

@ccchang Dr. Zlomislec UCSD. But ANY Dr. in the spinal orthopedic dept would be a great surgical choice!

@nycmusic I'd love to get his name and contact. I think you have to DM me according to rules here. That would be great if you could send that to me.

Thanks

@loriesco Hi. Regarding your lumbar nerves, did you have numbness? And if so, where? Also, did your nerves eventually grow back? And if so, how long did it take?

No they didn't grow back

I was wondering what you do besides PT to help with this.

For me—In addition to PT, exercises and stretches, walks -and i love gentle dancing to music in the apartment—movement very important when one can tolerate it without pain…DO and PT both say do the exercises for a short time, then rest—no need to do them all at once-often they help with mild pain, but don’t try to push too hard…if having a harder time , rest, use heat..maybe a topical thing like Topracin (arnica)…i see my osteopath DO/MD weekly for manual work on the muscles affected, and for advice.
