Degarelix side effects worsening?

Posted by ericas @ericas, Sep 10, 2023

After 8 months with no response to Orgivyx, in May my husband started degarelix. The results have been very encouraging but it seems like the side effects are getting worse. Initially he would feel bad (aches, fatigue, nausea) for a couple of weeks but then have at least one or two good weeks before his next shot. For the past two months the side effects are not letting up and seem to be getting worse. He feels like he has a bad flu all the time.

Has anyone here had this experience, and do the side effects ultimately get better?

Thanks.

I started Degarelix right at the start of ADT. I’ve had 3 monthly injections but no serious side effects, so I guess they vary from person to person. I’m 79, relatively fit from weights, walking and a loose veggie diet. My Gleason was 8 and PSA at 12.1. I hope you can tolerate or become used to the side effects.

@ericas, degarelix (brand name Firmagon) is also discussed in this discussion:

How is your husband doing? Have the side effects lessened as time goes on?
