After 7 years on 6 to 8 mgs for neck arthritis, I've tapered to 4 mg per day. Only really weird side effect so far is swollen ankles. Thankfully tylenol has helped with discomfort. That, and really resting when needed. If I'm on my feet awhile is when they swell the most. Wondering when this will go away? Have my dr appt soon, but has anyone else had this happen when weaning?? I can't wait to get off this stuff. It's been a miracle and a curse!

I have had swollen ankles, feet and calves all along, but it has gotten worse while tapering. I am now taking 30-40 mg furosemide every day. It is extremely uncomfortable. I have been assuming it is a prednisone side effect, which will linger even after I am off. If anyone can educate me about this, I’d be most appreciative!

Edema (swelling due to fluid) is a common side effect of prednisone. I had swelling in my ankles when I was taking 60 mg a day to treat GCA. The swelling went away as I tapered down to 40 mg and less.
