dealing with rosacea. - any one found something helpful

Posted by bobbiekc @bobbiekc, Nov 30, 2023

I was diagnosed with rosacea approx. 3 years ago. Since that time I have used a medication called Metrogel 1% nightly. It is helping but not controlling the redness 100%. Mainly on sides of my nose and chin. I have a few red scars on my face that are from rosacea bumps ( like an acne).
I use sun screen and don't drink which I read can irritate rosacea.
Would like to hear from anyone who has tried other treatments that have helped . Thank you .

I have had the best result by alternating treatments.
Topical sulfur gel available over the counter as
Prosacea. Use a mild acne cleanser with salicylic acid.
There is another prescription medication generic
azelaic acid. You may find seasonal flares with the weather and temperature.

I had laser treatments that got rid of most of the redness. It was really bad before that. It looked like I had burned my skin.

thank you. There is a spa where I live that offers cold laser treatment . They said they have had good results so maybe I will give it a try.

I used I ivermectin cream (Rosiver) at night and Azaleic Acid (Finacea) during the day. Then the moisturizer I use is La Roche Posey Cicaplast during the day and night. The cleanser I use in the morning is CeraVe SA Cleanser. It took 22 weeks to get my Roscaea to the point where I have no acne-like breakouts anymore. Also taking low dose (100 mg) once a day, doxycycline for 2 months helped reduce redness and receiving one BBL Laser treatment.
Hope this helps.

I had what I thought was rosacea for about 6 months before I realized it was histamine intolerance. I would break out in full face redness including eyes and would not improve for about a week. Foods which are high in histamine can be found on Food Compability List.
Whenever I ate a high histamine I broke out. I did/do take a Histamine Blocker supplement as required which is also gluten free (Amazon 60/ $35).

Have had this condition for almost 3 years and read everything available including book written by Tony Wrighton of UK which was very informative. It is not curable nor is there medication .

The good news is it can go away as mine miraculously has almost stopped over the last 5/6 months as I experiment with food as little as a lemon slice put in a water glass which would cause full break out.
I do follow a low histamine diet as whatever caused my intolerance was most likely higher histamine foods and aging.

I do and always have had some rosacea but not from histamine.

thank you for the information. I agree that certain foods can cause a flare up. I need to be more aware of my diet. Will do some follow up. Happy to hear you have it well controlled.

I have had Rosacea for several years I’m 70 years old.
Recently I have started to have what my doctor called Rosacea acne. They prescribed Flagyl cream to apply twice a day. Has anyone used that treatment? I don’t eat spicy food or much alcohol. I noticed big flare when I eat shrimp. Wandering if it’s related to histamine?
