Dealing with Effects of Blood Thinners
Anyone have suggestions for dealing with side effects of blood thinners? I'm back on Eliquis after an episode of afib and successful cardioversion, but not happy about it! I've pretty much learned to deal with bleeding from cuts, but bruises! my heaven the bruises! If I just bump into something, I end up with broken vessels that leave ugly red masses on my forearms for weeks. I look like I've been batting a kangaroo - and not very successfully. And I don't even want to talk about how long it takes to repair after a little abrasion. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I hope this is a good day for you! Sue

I suppose blood thinners impact us all differently. I am on Xarelto and rarely see bruising. Would it be worthwhile to ask your doctor how a different blood thinner might impact you?
Thank you for your response. I'll check with the doc! Sue
You do not mention the dose. It sounds like it is too strong. They just hand you a prescription without regard to weight or necessity. I had my dosage reduced. Even with 15 side effects, they were telling me to take this horrible drug. Finally, I had The Amulet implanted and don't take any blood thinners.
"Even with 15 side effects,"
What were your side effects please if you do not mind?
I assume that all 15 effects are now gone completely?
I am getting ready for a watchman implant at Mayo clinic in Minnesota. I have not heard of the Amulet implant.. I will have to take Eliquis for 45 days after the surgery and then I will not have to take any blood thinners. How are you doing with your surgery? I have an ascending aortic aneurysm, that Mayo’s has been watching since 2014. I am hoping all the tests will allow me to have the surgery.
Good luck with your implant.
Good morning, everyone!
Been on Apixaban (generic Eliquis) for several years... no side effects whatsoever.
All the best!

That has been my experience with Eliquis ( 5mg x2/day) as well. I have taken it for close to 2 years for paroxysmal A-Fib. I don't even have any excess bruising, and don't notice that any cuts, or "boo-boos" I get take any longer to heal. That said, a small cut, or spot where venipuncture was taken tends to ooze blood somewhat longer than it would without the Eliquis, but a little pressure on the area for a couple minutes has taken care of that for me.
