Dating with digestive health issues?

Posted by cyberkitty @cyberkitty, Jan 30 5:53pm

Has anyone tried dating someone with a ‘normal’ GI tract??? I imagine there would be some awkward conversations & situations. Seems easier to start a relationship with someone with digestive health issues. A lot more understanding and compassion would be exchanged, I imagine.
Or was everyone already in a long term relationship & madly in love before their symptoms progressed?
Asking for a friend 😜

@danny5 ,

Right. I’m trying to get my priorities straight. I think being overwhelmed is one reason I ended up here. But, I won’t give up on love. My last serious relationship was a couple of years ago. He has passed away. He was considerably older than me. I suddenly felt the desire for a new relationship this past summer. I hope it happens. 🫰

Thank you for your kind words and prayers. I should let you know a miracle happened.

Recently, i was looking out my kitchen window, with melancholy about my situation. I gave myself the speech about how no man is just going to pick up his phone, call me and ask me out. I was planning to do online dating….BUT, the next day, I got a voice message from an ex boyfriend. It was out of nowhere. I hadn’t seen him in over 20 years! I returned the call and we are now dating! For now, it’s nice and fun. He’s incredibly affectionate and a boost to my confidence.

I’ve been able to avoid digestion issues when we’re together, so far. But, as we spend more time together, it has me concerned. He’s a very understanding person, so…..i hope it’ll be ok.

Thank you for the hope!! I’m wishing you and new/old beau the best wishes!!!
I’m sure the conversation about health issues will go well. The kindness, love and care is already built in.❤️

You would be surprised to know how many adults have some GI issues.
I wouldn’t worry about dating- get out there. If a person can’t deal with your problems- move on.

From a person with IBS-D for over forty years. Not only is this problem hard to live with it's an embarrassing problem. It's one of those chronic conditions that nobody likes to talk about. I think that makes it harder.

I know many, many disabled people who thought that dating was over for them. But they persisted and found wonderful partners.

So, you should never think that a disability precludes a relationship.

Also, you should know the figures, because most folks don't.

The percentage of disabled folks in America?

1% ? 5%? Nope. Fully 25% of Americans are disabled. We are a huge community...nearly 85 million people.

Take care now.

Thanks and you are right. Maybe it’s the getting-out-there part that is stumping me. After my stomach removal the only place I frequent is the hospital for different appts and treatments.
I’ve checked out everyone there - no Doctor McDreamy or McSteamy.

Adult men can also have several “embarrassing “ issues. It’s not only us women.
It can’t hurt to start slow and get an idea of how the person would react. Remember that you don’t commit to anything with a date or two.
