Cyst on Pancreas?

Posted by faithann64 @faithann64, Feb 25, 2021

So recently i had a CT Abdomen Pelvis w/ Contrast and they found a cystic structure to arise on the Pancreas . Said it could represent a serous/mucinous neoplasm. Anyone knows what that means ??? Thank You. ( 57 year old male.)

Yes I had a cyst on the head of my pancrease and had the whipple surgery. Cyst was benign but next to it was cancer cells. Stage 1A so am lucky that I had the cyest which I think may have caused my pancretitis attack five months prior to surgery. good luck

My cyst was smaller than that and before surgery they said it was 60% chance benign and 40% cancerous. It did turn out to be benign but there was cancer not far from it. I am lucky they did surgery as probably would have been much worse now as I had surgery Dec 13 and elected to do survelience only and no chemo. Mine was on the head so not sure about the neck situation. Surgery called the whipple which you can check out on line.

What made the decision to have the Whipple surgery for your cyst being that it was less than a centimeter in size? Did your cyst have "worrisome features"?

Also, how are you feeling/doing since your Whipple surgery?

You need to talk to a pancan doctor. If you can get a cyst removed and prevent yourself from getting cancer - I’d say do it. Also, like above post the spread or presence of cancer is hard to detect through imaging only. Pancan is the worst cancer since there is no early warning for it. You have been given a major early warning opportunity. Now, does your insurance cover a surgery for cyst on the pancreas. Discuss all this with your doctor.
