cymbalta for pain

Posted by srwolfe @srwolfe, Sep 19, 2023

I was prescribed cymbalta to help with overall body pain. After a week i was walking my dog and realized my pain was way down to almost to a livable pain. But the sweating was non stop. Especially at night i soaked my pillow and bed. My Dr had me stop cymbalta and my pain came roaring back. Anyone that can help me with this please let me know

Just a warning about cymbalta. I’m on a very low dose (30g every second day), having started taking it about 10 years ago. Last year I tried to go off it, very gradually as advised, but a couple of weeks after completely stopping I had terrible and frightening withdrawal symptoms. I assume I’d been on cymbalta for too long.

You are taking it every other day for pain? Does it help? Why did you want to stop cymbalta? My Dr and I are starting the cymbalta again but every other day this time. I was taking 30 mg a day and my back pain was almost completely gone. The sweating especially at night was horrible. Hoping 20 mg every other day will be the help I need and with less sweating

I wasn’t using it for pain, just for anxiety. I wanted to get off it simply because I didn’t feel that it was necessary any more. (I didn’t have any side effects like yours though). Good luck!

Ok I just came from my Dr and he wants me to try 20mg Cymbalta every other day. Hopefully the extreme sweating will be les and manageable. I was originally using 30 mg Cymbalta a day. I was taking it at night. I'm going to try taking the 20 mg in the morning and see if the night sweats are less. I really hope this works. Back is killing me along with all the other constant pain of arthritis and multiple surgeries on hips, knees and shoulder. Please let me know if you have this same issue. The Cymbalta 30 mg was best pain medication I ever had prescribed but side effects were extreme

I totally agree....I tried 30mg of Cymbalta and while it made me feel amazing after taking it for 5 days I had no bowel movement and was miserable. I already take Amatiza for constipation issues and I can't deal with feeling miserable from the constipation it gave me. I even tried going to the 20mg daily and it did the same thing so I had to stop taking it as much as it helped the pain and arthritis I have. I can't take nsaids and so other than cortisone there's not much I think I can take since I can't take things like Cymbalta and Nsaids and Tylenol doesn't really cut it and I don't want to take any pain meds because they also constipate if taken too much. I wish you luck and keep us updated how the every other day works for you. I never tried taking it this way.

You have to be weaned off an antidepressant like cymbalta VERY slowly. Did you get any help with this?

I’d read a lot about the risks of doing it too fast. I removed a grain from my capsule every couple of days. The whole period took around 3 months. Withdrawal effects started a few weeks later and worsened.

I also take cymbalta for pain and am up to 90mg/day, which I take in the morning. I was taking it at night and my Dr told me I should be taking it in the morning because it can interfere with sleep. I agree it is very effective for pain control.

So you don’t get drowsy in the daytime?

Was a doc supervising? I have never heard of removing grains from capsules.

No, I didn’t discuss it with a doctor. Yes maybe I should have, but what advice would I have got but withdraw very slowly? I did discuss it with my doctor after the withdrawal reaction and she simply suggested I resume taking them.
