CT Urogram Findings
Hello, I went into the ER today after having lower abdominal pain and hematuria with blood clots. I have a history of being treated with Cytoxan for previous breast cancer, so I knew bladder cancer was a risk. They ran a CT Urogram and the findings are below. I realize I need a cystoscopy and biopsy to confirm diagnosis, but can anyone help me understand what I'm reading? Are foci nodules smaller than a mass? And it sounds like multiple? I'm thinking that first word might be a typo and perhaps says three..
There nodular foci of soft tissue density along the wall of the left
posterior bladder, and in the midline, more superiorly, shown on all 3
phases (filling defects on the delayed phase), for which further work-up
including direct visualization and tissue sampling is recommended.

So, here’s what I’m reading that foci is tiny masses of abnormal tissue growth which (and this should be no surprise) can be caused by multiple factors including cancer. But it would seem that usually they are referred to as spots on scans, if that’s any help. Are you peeing blood as well? Concerned, Robert
Hello Robert. I googled and saw that reference, too. I’m trying not to get too hopeful that the ‘small’ indication is possibly a good sign that if this is (likely) malignant, perhaps it isn’t too advanced or invasive. But to answer your question, yes, I am peeing blood, and have been passing blood clots as well. I’m also experiencing lower abdominal pain, around my bladder area. So its strange to me if these are small growths how they could be causing such havoc for me. But they just are.
Ok, I don’t want to pry but I need to ask you another personal question? Are you constipated, haven’t pooped in a while? Cause that was the culprit with me. Poop gets so hard and u just can’t poop? Cause that will cause that pain in your abdomen but most importantly that hard bowel is bearing down on your bladder and Shazam all the problems you are experiencing are because you need some stool softeners ( if that’s the case) then after you have a healthy bowel movement that other stuff will go away, however it may (probably) caused an infection so you’ll need someone to prescribe you some cipro or something before it gets to your kidneys. But that’s only if you’re constipated? That’s all I got for now, be better & let me know so I can change direction and try to be some help to you. Robert
I found this advice very helpful since I also have bowel involvement. Thank you.
They will most likely have to biopsy and the pathology will inform malignancy or benign growth. The sooner the better.
It's always tough getting the results of imaging studies, like a CT urogram, before being able to discuss it with your doctor. You're wise to learn about the terms used. However, results are best interpreted by your doctor because they have more pieces of the diagnostic puzzle to draw from, like your medical history, blood work and other findings.
@kdb624, have you had an appointment in the meantime to go over the findings of the CT urogram with your doctor? Any update?
