Creatine and non-diabetic CKD

Posted by nimblefoot @nimblefoot, Mar 30, 2023

I was diagnosed with non diabetic ckd about 6 years ago. The only marker I have is age, I'm 78 years old and, according to my doctor I am in the top 1% in terms of fitness for people my age. I have hypophosphatemia, but well controlled with a supplement. My Egfr recently dropped from 64 to 59 and is of little concern since I know how to fix it.
I'm pretty much a gym rat and long distance hiker.
I am interested in supplementing my workouts with 2.5 gm of creatine monohydrate, but I understand it may be problematic considering my diagnosis. I am interested in what others may have to say about this, particularly if you are athletic with non diabetic ckd.
Thank you.

Hello Friends,
My Father who is 68 years old. His creatine was 2.6 so doctor has suggested few medicines like Renolog, Symprotek forte, Cilacar 10mg, minipressxl. Will these tablets helps in reducing creatinine levels? Please let me know

@skanda92 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. The things you listed are mostly supplements. A good renal diet may help your dad, that is getting good hydration, eating little or no red meat, etc.

Here is an article from the American Kidney Fund that you might find useful: https://www.kidneyfund.org/article/avoid-superfood-trap-tips-improve-your-creatinine-and-egfr

Remember, the two leading causes for kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure.
