I had GBS years ago and now hear pros and cons on if I should get the Vaccine or not. I also had covid in January and was hospitalized for 6 days. It took me two years to get over GBS and 2 months to get over covid so not sure what to do.

I am happy to have found this site. re…Vaccines and GBS. I'm very fortunate in that my family understands and supports my decision NOT to be vaccinated. Since we live outside of town, on 25 acres of ground, I have minimal outside contacts, such as weekly grocery shopping.. I work at keeping myself as healthy as possible, with the exception of mobility. I wish for the best for those GBS survivors out there, whatever their individual decisions are.

I had 3 reply's to my comment. Only those who have suffered with GB know our fears of the vaccine. It's not a choice for us and we would certainly get the vaccine if possible.
You are exactly right!!
If Ever I find out that it is safe, I will let you know. My doctor has been studying the vaccine very closely
What does this vaccine consist of!!
I had a very bad cold/ flu when COVID CAME OUT IN March 2020! But I never took test , I just got vaccinated.
I’m vaccinated, I m not comfy with Drs at all!
I usually eat onions, garlic and try to live on soup since my stomach always hurts! My family physician told me to go get sonogram. GALLSTONES, i’ve been doing a natural clean from natures way!! But the upper GI ALWays feels terrible especially after i take thyroid meds!! And since i need to wait 45 minutes before i eat, it always feels like it’s putting a hole in my stomach! I eat healthy, organic foods, but i’m afraid to see a Dr for tummy!
My Mom passed of Stomach Cancer but she had 7 kids and was always stressed out, and never ate healthy!!
Worried about her kids, I remember she would cook for us and would eventually eat donuts and coffee and wouldn’t sit down to eat!! My mom was a saint! Miss her so much!!
Anyway, stopped drinking juice, now i drink Lemon water and eat tofu instead of meat in soup with onions, garlic and mushroom, or lots of greens!!
I wish someone could suggest something with out me having to go to the Dr!!
My Mom was in pain with stomach and when they opened her her, they said it spread like Sand!! It was terrible to see her suffer!
Anyway, i hope this thyroid med isn’t what is causing this terrible pain in my upper GI!!
I never had problems with stomach till COVID.
And that is exactly why those without real medical concerns must get the vaccine — to protect those who cannot be vaccinated.
You might wish to look at the recommended diet for those with GERD or acid reflux. Avoid caffeine, citrus, spicy foods. There are also over the counter acid reflux meds to reduce the acid your body is producing. If all of that doesn't help, I think you should consider seeing a gastroenterologist to assure there is nothing beyond GERD going on. You will likely need an endoscopy to examine your stomach. It is an easy test. Acid hitting the lower part of your esophagus can cause serious irritation and a precancerous condition (Barret's Esophagus) so do get this checked out for your own good health.
I appreciate your research. It's very difficult to be isolated for such a long time but the fear of the possibilities of a reaction outweighs being separated from my adult children. It's heartbreaking.
I have one more question, if you have had GBS will that virus always be in your system for the rest of your life?
Yes. Just like shingles. According to the history of Gillian Barre(French Dr. who discovered this syndrome.), it was back in the 1970's when the influenza shot was introduced to society. Cases started to appear more often. While it wasn't in anyway a pandemic of Gillian Barre, there also wasn't a cure for it. Today there are more advanced treatments that have the capability to get most patients back on their feet.
Two and a half months ago, I was rushed to Tucson Medical Center Emergency room. Not only was I numbed from the waist down and spreading quickly, I had pneumonia and I didn't know. Also, my potassium level was dangerously low. Heart attack low. I had been to another Emergency room 18 hours earlier and they kicked me out stating I was fine. Twice in one month. And, the prior month. When I couldn't walk at all, I was referred to TMC who didn't turn me away. Well, my whole body shut down and I was put on life support. I wasn't suppose to live. No lie. I am the very definition of a miracle. Very blessed to have another opportunity to help others.
The doctors ordered five plasma treatments. It was a very painful recovery. Having had multiple lower back operations, and many other joint operations, this was just one more challenge.
Within FIVE weeks I was released and I was walking. Two days later did not need the walker! The neurological pain hasn't disappeared, yet! Before the GBS, Fibromyalgia and the nerve pain already existed.
A strong positive attitude can really make a huge difference. The kind of treatment you receive from your hospital, and acute physical therapy, and a healthy diet. God really saved me by surrounding me with the most compassionate, intelligent, and understanding doctors and nurses, I have ever had the pleasure to know and experience. Compassion is hard to come by these days. However, go to Tucson Medical Center for your Gillian Barre, and you will see!
Don't get bogged down with worrying about getting it again. Think about how you kicked some or all of it in the ass before, and think about what could be done better!
