Could your PMR have been a result of the Covid mRNA vaccine?

Posted by danzster79 @danzster79, Jul 30, 2024

I have taken vaccines my entire life. I believe in their ability to prevent diseases. From childhood vaccines for school, to Tdap with the birth of my grandchildren, to influenza and more, and yes to the Covid vaccines. I believe medical science in my lifetime is nothing short of amazing.
But I have read some science papers recently that are now questioning if some individuals may contract PMR after receiving the new mNRA Covid boosters.

I had never heard of PMR. I contracted it in mid April 2024. My latest Covid booster was in late December 2023, my 4th or 5th, I've lost count. What gives me pause is that within my closest golfing buddies, a relatively small group of 12 or so men, another buddy contracted PMR in February 2024. His last booster was in early November, 2023. That's a very small sample group to have two PMR cases.

Does anyone else have concerns or experiences similar to mine?

It have attached one study looking at risks of PMR and other autoimmune illnesses after a Covid 19 infection. When considering whether to receive the Covid and Flu vaccines remember the following:
Having the actual infection also creates a risk for developing autoimmune disease post infection.
People with PMR tend to be older and both those infections have a significantly higher risk for hospitalization and death in older patients.
Therefore, deciding not to receive boosters for either influenza and / or Covid is defi itely not without risk.
That said - up to each individual to decide.
For me - the risks of the infections far outweigh the risks of the vaccines.

My PMR onset was 2 weeks after I took a battery of vaccinations including a Covid Booster for a planned trip to Africa. I firmly believe my PMR was triggered by the multi vaccinations as my body's immune system responded to the foreign agents.

Auto immune diseases are listed as very rare side effects of the Covid vaccine. I developed GCA, Giant Cell Arteritis, another auto immune disease, just after my Covid booster in 2022. In 2023 I was diagnosed with PMR which is often linked to CGA.

I had a very similar experience. Had my last Covid vaccine in a similar time frame to you and was diagnosed with PMR in April 2024. I am also a golfer and my golf buddy also has PMR. He took the same mRNA vaccine as we did I believe. Hard not to question this situation. I, like you have trusted science and most doctors my entire life. All we can do is try to find what works for us. Stay positive!

I can’t tell you all how reassuring this PMR site has been. I appreciate hearing your progress and your attempts to manage this condition. Another thing we all need to remember is that prednisone affects the bones and I have developed prednisone induced osteoporosis ( yes it’s possible) so I am motivated to get off of it. And I am researching the Prolia and other options to help. I am anxious to start Actemra after reading comments in this broadcast. And Actemra may also help with bone deterioration according to my research. Thank you. I’ll let you all know my progress.
