Coughing up green phlegm for 4 months, back and chest pain

I have been coughing up green phlegm for four months and have gone to the ER, pulmonary doctor, ENT, had an endoscopy and showed acid reflex . My upper back and chest hurt badly when I need to cough up the phlegm. The pain goes away when I cough everything out. Now it is mucus. I am coughing up. I’ve been losing my voice for about two weeks now, and it gets continuously worse. When I went to the ER once, they didn’t know what was going on either except when they took a blood test, my sodium level was low. They made me stay overnight, I didn’t understand why, I didn’t go in there regarding my sodium. Anyway, they gave me many bags of saline and I eventually felt better. Today, when the pain was a horrible and I was ready to go to the ER again I thought about the sodium and I had bought some packets to put in water that had sodium in it. I drank that and I felt better again. I don’t put salt on anything.My voice is still almost gone, I am beginning to feel the pain coming back in my chest and upper back. I don’t want to take too much sodium because that will probably affect my body in other ways. Help? Any suggestions?

I'm so sorry this is happening to you! Besides the ER, have you been to your regular doctor? When I have phlegm, I gargle with Listerine, the original flavor not the new sweeter ones. The original flavor of Listerine works on phlegm and cuts it out. It also gets rid of infection. It will help your hoarseness too. I use Listerine everyday and never have anymore problems with phlegm or sore throats. Also drinking a lot of water can really help your body cope with issues like this. Don't give up totally on salt. It's a mineral our body needs. Just use it like all things in moderation.

Prayer helps too. God made you and he can fix you! I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.

You are so kind. Thank you for your reply.
This all started with my acid reflux and they said that all of this is due to the acid reflex. So trying to get that under control also. When I was at the ER with my low sodium, they told me when I left that I had to reduce my intake of water. (I used to drink between 60 and 80 ounces of water a day.)
Today was the first day that I was not coughing up green phlegm and now it is clear mucus. Lots of it.
I am looking for a new primary. Not happy with the one I have.

I appreciate your reply and kind words. I will keep praying and thank you for your prayers.

@coconpuff You might want to get a CT scan of your lungs if you’ve had reflux issues, coughing episodes and are producing that much mucus.
Good luck.

@jnmy
Thank you. I have had a CT scan of my lungs by a Pulmonary Dr. Shows nothing. Very Frustrating
