Coughing up blood

Posted by dazweig @dazweig, Jun 22 2:58pm

Hello- I am new to the group and am wondering if anyone coughed up blood with the MAC and bronchiectasis? I have had this for several years; the coughing up blood just started the last couple of months. The Dr. wants me to start on an IV medication.

Very common, the amount and frequency vary. Watch what otc's you take, like Advil which can cause an increase

@dazweig Welcome to our group, where we try to help one another deal with our lung issues. In general, coughing up blood is part of the disease for a lot of people, and most doctors will tell you if it is just a few tablespoons, and stops on its own, they want to know. But it is not a cause for alarm or a trip to the ER.

Can you tell us a little more about yourself and what you have been doing to treat MAC?

I had the Mac and bronchiectasis for 12 years. Several years ago they removed part of my right lung in an effort to slow down the growth. The meds were not working. After that they tried a medication that is not approved by the FDA along with 2 other medications. That combination seemed to help. Every so often I have an exacerbation and need to take an antibiotic. In all that time I never coughed up blood until January. I was put on an antibiotic and was good for awhile. Then in May is started again. Is this additional info helpful?
