Cost of treatment

Where can I go to get an idea of how much various treatments cost?

It depends on how you meant the question. If you mean , "I don't have insurance, what's this going to cost" or "I'm doing research for what the prices for these treatment are" can be two very different things.

Unfortunately, it's a little like buying a car used to be. There's the listed price that no one pays. A contract price that the insurance companies pay (much less than list). Lastly, what you would pay out of pocket if that was necessary, that's usually somewhere between the two, and often negotiable depending on ability to pay.

The treatment centers should tell you if you ask. For example one of my tests was denied by my insurance co, I called the imaging center for a price, they gave me a quote. I told them I was paying for it out of pocket and it went down quite a bit from the original quote. Ultimately, the insurance company covered it and paid more than I was quoted.

It seems to be a system that is an exercise in obfuscation.

Try looking at your insurance, they usually have a section where you can check. You can also try checking with the institution you’re looking at.

Depends on the treatment. Impression only for private cost. US/UK highest. Asia equivalent centers cost about from half or less to two third? In terms of service level, ie availability etc Asia may be higher.

So let's try to break it down. Without insurance, Chemo about $1500. Lupron/ADT $1000/3mths. Xtandi $4000/mth. MRI $4000, Bone petscan same. What does it all add up to? About $50k-$60K?
Is that a lot?

Dont know the cost of radiation but doubt it would cost that much. Insurance outside the USA would cost lot more, both for the premium and the deduction or copay. You just need a big enough insured population.

I had a estimate before treatment
39 treatments $415,000.00
Insurance $98,000.00
Copay $290.00
Well I knew that was completely wrong.

$415,000.00
Insurance negotiations $115,000.00
Patient responsibility according to coverage 20% $6,000.00 (lower than 20%)

Not sure how or why negotiations go with different insurance companies..every plan will be different, I switched insurance in the middle of treatments finding better coverage. Many health organizations offer financing at zero interest over time for Patient responsibility $..

At the end of the day, insurance cos do not pay out of pocket. The insured pay themselves. The company ie management etc take 3% for their trouble. If you are lucky, your underwriter has few claims. Otherwise they up the premium and/or deductible to recover. So who is the wiser?
Ok then they up your costs. You switch. The new company asks your history.
So in a big country like USA we have lots of insured. Some companies have lower claims than others. We can exploit that by switching. But that is also a bit of lucky draw. Smaller companies in Europe etc aint so lucky more often than not, it amounts tonothing more than putting money into a savings account for 10-20 years, with little or no interest.
