Corneal edema

Posted by pjc810 @pjc810, 21 hours ago

My optometrist diagnosed me with corneal edema 2 years ago and prescribed the hypertonic sodium chloride ointment and drops. He tols me if it got worse to see an ophthalmologist. Now 2 years later it has just gotten progressively worse and it time to seena corneal specialist. The corneal specialist that accepts my insurance refused to make an appointment for me. They told me that I would have to fax over my medical record from the optometrist and they would decide if I should be seen. As the only corneal specialist that accepts my insurance, I don't want to aggravate them; but is this normal practice? Why couldn't they just see me to evaluate my situation?

Would they make an appt for you if your optometrist made a referral first? That's a common practice depending on the type of insurance you have.

My insurance does not require a referral.
