COPD supplements

Posted by mindy01 @mindy01, Sep 26 12:50pm

I have seen more than dozens of supplements that claim to be helpful with breathing with COPD. Of these dozens, I've researched each and every one and most, if not all, are a scam. How disheartening. Does anyone know of a supplement that is helpful for COPD and doesn't claim to "cure it in 2-3 days". I'm sure there are more people than myself that would like to know if there is something out there that is helpful without worrying if it would make the problem worse, or heaven forbid, create a different problem.

@pamelaaci I recalled that a psychiatrist I spoke with mentioned a combination of NAC and glycine to decrease the mucous....so I dug around and lucky enough in the back of my vitamin storage found unexpired bottles of both and tried them yesterday. Be darned if it does not appear that the secretions and congestion had decreased. I will continue to use and hopefully will gain benefit along with all the other gyrations that I do to keep this dreadful condition under control. Still researching benefit of bronchial thermo-plasty and Rheoplasty. So wish I was closer to Temple and Dr Criner!

Mindy there are no cures - yet- but there are vitamins and supplements that may be beneficial for Copd as well as in general. My pulmonologist has had me on NAC for years now. 2 600 mg caps per day, along with my meds. Roflumilast 500 mcg and Trelegy.
Copd.net has suggestions too.

Exercise, Mediterranean diets, look into clinical trials. If you are where near Philadelphia Temple Hospital - lung division has the premiere authority in the US for Copd, Dr. Gerard Criner and they do trials and host yearly the Gold Standard for Copd. I’ll find the link for that and post it.
