COPD Exasperation- Timeline

Posted by piper018 @piper018, 3 days ago

Hello,

I had 2 asthma/ acute hypoxia flare-ups now diagnosed with COPD in March and was hospitalized. I’ve been home since last hospitalization on March 29th.
After my first hospitalization I was sent home with O2 and nebulizer no follow up meds.

After the 2nd hospitalization I was sent home on prednisone, the Dr. decided I should be on prednisone for the next 4 weeks. I have been able to get a little better. Initially, the minute I would stand up my O2 sat would drop to 84-87%. On O2 at 2 liters I sat at 95-98%. Now I can walk an about 25 feet and then I start feeling like I can’t breath.
My current treatment plan also involves getting approval for Dupixant.
I’m a little concerned that I was released on 3/29 and still have pretty severe shortness of breath when standing or moving. I’m currently taking a tapering dose of prednisone which I began on 3/29 at 40 mgs first week next 30 and so on.
During both hospitalization my troponins were very high at 1881. They did sent me to Cath lab and no clogged arteries and said valves were good but said I had takotsubo.

Since my first hospitalization and not being able to breath I have been freaked out as it is scary to feel like you can’t breath. Could feeling short of breath when standing go along with the takotsubo? Or is this the process of healing ?

regarding COPD and the taper down dose of prednisone I have experience that and the prednisone is like a miracle drug but you have to give it time. But if your oxygen goes too low then go to the ER. Don’t try to overdo because your body needs rest also. Keep us posted on your condition and bless you, Kay

Kay,

Thank you for your encouragement, it’s been a rough journey. I do feel slight improvement daily.

I have both cardiac and asthma/COPD health issues. I see both a pulmonologist and cardiologist. I see an allergist too as I have lots of allergies. My arteries are clear per cardiac cath but I’m prone to irregular heart beats (electrical vs plumbing). With your Takosubo diagnosis and elevated Troponin levels have you been referred to a cardiologist? I see an electrophysiologist who specializes in the electrical component of the heart. I had a rotten cold in Feb and was in Prednisone for 9 days and an antibiotic. It took me a full month to get back to my normal peak flow and O2 level. I keep track of this info daily to help my doctors and myself understand what’s going on with me. Hope you feel better soon!

Exacerbation is the word you want. And yes, they are exasperating!

Yes I have a cardiologist appointment in a few weeks and I’m hopeful he will be able to answer my questions. Thank you for your insight
