Hi I was just wanting to know if anyone on here has had general anesthesia for surgery.and how safe it is if you have COPD.

I've had it many times and did fine. I 'm not on oxygen or anything though.

I am sure it depends on your level of COPD . I refused surgery for a shoulder rebuild . It would require an anesthetic and a nerve block . I am pretty well advanced in my Emphysema . I won’t take the risk of the procedure causing more damage to my
lungs . I am 79 and on oxy 24/7. 3 ltrs at night and 4 or more when active . Blessed Be. , Crystalina

I’m in stage four COPD and I’ve been on anesthesia a few different times. I do take oxygen. It didn’t seem to bother me none

I had a procedure under 'twilight'. No problems, no memory of it! All went well.

I was recommended for a endoscopy of my esophagus a few years back. I'm in stage 3 of COPD/emphysema. I've been on oxygen, 2 litres, since 2018. When I spoke with my pulmonologist about the scope, he recommended I don't have that done, as it is sometimes difficult for a pulmonary patient to come out of the anesthesia. The best thing is to talk with your lung doctor.

Hello I have had several surgeries with Anesthesia and I had no problems at all. I am 70 years old. I even get sedated when I get an epidural injection in my spine and I do ok with it too.

I have had endoscopy of my esophagus several times and had not problems whatsoever. I'm about to have another procedure done so they can check to see where my hiatal is at. It feels like it is bulging more so they need to take a look . I'm tired of feeling bloated all the time.

I'm happy to hear that you've had success with your endoscopies. I suppose if my problem were life threatening or if it would make my health better, I would give in to having it done. Good luck with your hiatal.
