constipation with left side abdominal pain after neo bladder

Posted by kberke529 @kberke529, Jun 6 10:59am

I had neo bladder surgery in January 2020. I've had constipation problems since. I drink over 75 ounces of water each day to stay dehydrated. On a bowel regimen per my gastro. I've suffered with left side abdominal pain since shortly after surgery. I'm receiving chemo over 4 years as cancer metastisized to several bones about 11 months after surgery. Anyone found a solution?

Hello @kberke529 and welcome to Connect.
My husband had his neobladder surgery in 2022 and suffered many complications post op and during the following year. Constipation was not one except after surgery when on Opioid pain meds. He has had issues with explosive diarrhea with little warning. Managing this with a good Probiotic ( we use Align) and Metamucil capsules has alleviated many symptoms. The psyllium fiber in Metamucil works both ways to absorb fluid in GI tract in diarrhea and also helping to retain fluid to soften stool in constipation. He definitely does better when on the probiotic. He is also on Vitamin B12 as that value was low after the surgery initially. I imagine your medical team has had you trying these things. Has anyone suggested exploring your abdomen looking at scar tissue that might be removed? My adult son uses a product called Colon Broom when needed which is Psyllium and swears by it. There are yoga techniques that are supposed to help constipation. Maybe you can research that?
