Constipation after Stroke
Is it normal to have constipation off and on months after a stroke?
And then loose stools followed by several days of constipation again?
I have to use Miralax, Citrucel/Metamucil, and hot tea for days to get any "action". Not much appetite, but do try to get fiber from vegetables and a little fruit. Have type 2 diabetes, so can't eat too much -- especially carbs. Exercise is limited to walker and wheelchair, but trying to increase it. Going on 83 years old.

I developed epilepsy. after my surgery for the bleeding meningioma which had caused a hemorrhagic stroke. And share your bowel issues. I attributed the condition to age (83) and the drugs I take for the epilepsy, but maybe it was the stroke itself? Interested in seeing what other replies you get. Best wishes M.

Hi, @grrranny - sorry you've had to deal with this pattern of constipation on and off months after your stroke and then loose stools followed by yet more constipation. No fun at all.
I'm tagging a few members who know about stroke from their own experiences or from the experience of someone close to them, so they can tell you if this type of bowel pattern is typical after stroke @elisabv2u @jackieh @pmorgigno @pek59
@strokesurvivordynamo @v8s @hfp.
Are you noticing any factors that make these bowel incidents better or worse?
