Constant Diarrhea

Anyone here have constant diarrhea? I practically live on lomotil pills. I know my nerves play somewhat of a role but not always. Some days I live in the bathriom.
I have never had a diagnosis for my problem.

Someone told me MetaMucile and it helped for awhile but has started again

I had watery diarrhea beginning June 22nd for which I went to Urgent Care. I believed I had a cyclospora parasite infection and they agreed it was likely - there was an outbreak in my state. Unfortunately, the APRN there didn't realize the test for cyclospora is a separate stool test and she gave me the standard test, so the tests came back "not detected" for the 6 parasites tested. She also prescribed Bactrim which made me feel better in 24 hours, but did not stop the diarrhea. Bentyl helped a bit, but nothing - not Pepto, lomotil, several differnt probiotics, antihistamine, activated charcoal or Metamucil helped - until I found a reference to arsenicum album on the Mount Sinai homeopathy website. Within 24 hours the watery diarrhea was gone. I'm not typically a "homeopathy person", but it has been a dramatic change. With no side effects. I bought mine from Amazon. Boiron is the brand - the blue one - 30C. Not saying it will help everyone, but it's been a dramatic change. At $15+ it's worth a try. I thought I would never be normal again.

Had weekly diarrhea and dr did a colonoscopy found nothing sand told me to get used to it as it was aging. My microscopic colitis from 2018 was no longer active per the colonoscopy biopsy. 6 months later diarrhea was increasing and eventually I had it everyday in July. Was waiting for opening at gastro office when friend mentioned gluten. I stopped eating white bread for one day (white bread for histamine intolerance) and my diarrhea disappeared. Went from daily to zero diarrhea. Neither pcp nor gastro dr ever mentioned gluten as the problem

The colonoscopy won't find celiac you have to have a endoscopy and they take a biopsy. You have to have been eating gluten for a few weeks before the test. I have had diarrhea for over 30 years. No celiac has been found but I am gluten intolerant. It's a horrible and embarrassing problem. I just came back from a family vacation and it's a good thing the house we rented had 5 bathrooms. Next year the family is talking about renting a house in France. How do people travel out of the country with this.

The colonoscopy won't find celiac you have to have a endoscopy and they take a biopsy. You have to have been eating gluten for a few weeks before the test. I have had diarrhea for over 30 years. No celiac has been found but I am gluten intolerant. It's a horrible and embarrassing problem. I just came back from a family vacation and it's a good thing the house we rented had 5 bathrooms. Next year the family is talking about renting a house in France. How do people travel out of the country with this.

A few years ago while I was waiting for a test to identify my problem as microscopic colitis I managed to travel with friends for two weeks through Central Europe with the help of a combination of Lomotil and imodium. You might investigate this avenue .

I just had to stop a med to prevent migraine. One of the newer meds. Not only did my hair start falling out it made me terribly constipated which is a known side effect. I thought that wouldn't be so bad since I have the other problem. But I honestly don't know what's worse. Not going for a week at a time and bloating up like a balloon or my going constantly and not being able to live a normal life.

On Amazon there are a couple different ones with 30c on label. Could you please post actual name

In reply to @brigby For what it is worth, I keep quarts of a vinegar solution in the vanity in my bathroom, and probably have the cleanest toilet of anyone around me. Having said this, three out of four of my doctors have recommended a repeat colonoscopy and endoscopy. Guess which one said "no" to the colonoscopy? The gastroenterologist. Go figure. I have been referred to another gastro group affiliated with my medical plan so that I can have a different gastroenterologist perform the procedure. Who knows how long that referral will take? My go to drug is lomotil and sometimes even that does not work. I have had so many stool tests, and every time I do one, I say, "woe to the person who goes through my garbage." LOL It is hard enough to get the cups filled, especially when the lab forgets to give you the proper instrument to fill the container.
In any event, I do have some kind of malabsorption disorder and hopefully at some point in the future modern medicine will have an answer for me.

Did you have your gallbladder removed? If so you might have bile salt malabsortion. It happened to me and I also take a lot of diarrhea pills. My doctor also placed me on a low dose nortriptyline to slow the high speed digestion down. I am now able to leave the house without constantly looking for the closest bathroom.

I underwent both a colonoscopy and an ST scan, in addition to a blood test to check for gluten intolerance.
