Combined heart-liver transplant

Posted by hope25 @hope25, Feb 13 10:13am

Good morning to all. Has anyone received a combined heart-liver transplant? What were your specific indications? Does UNOS handle the ability to get approval separately? I have read that underlying CHF can complicate liver transplant and cause acute CHF. If that is the case, is a combined procedure ever undertaken, as it seems rare.

Hi @hope25, I believe your question may be related to an earlier question you posted here:
- Does heart failure/arrhythmia affect candidacy for liver transplant?

Is your eligibility for liver transplant compromised because you have heart complication (congestive heart failure)? Are you a candidate for heart transplant?

I have been informed by a local cardiologist that my Stress ECHO is normal. I now have sought a 2nd opinion. My reading on CHF/cardiomyopathy notes 5 yr average survival or much less. I have many unknown variables currently. I have normal blood work and MRI liver. The hepatologist is not convinced that I even have liver issues. That being said, I am wondering if anyone has had a combined transplant. This appears to be rarely done.
