I’m newly diagnosed with osteoporosis. Am on risedronate (monthly dose). Read about collagen for osteoporosis in this support group. Please advise (a) which collagen brands are good and (b) can it be taken while on risedronate regimen? Thanks very much!

18 months on the fortibone. My gram per m2 did increase, but my trabecular bone score was borderline low quality. Different machine because I wanted a TBS. Lower T score but higher gm/m2 in spine. Hips are all -1–1.4. I never felt frail.

I would challenge this thought process although it is understandable. Marketing opportunities can easily manipulate us. However, my last dexi resulted in increased bone and the only thing that I did differently was consistent collagen with Fortibone. Although I have a long way to go, I feel stronger and less frail and as I study more, Fortibone reduces fragility fracture %. Granted, I am only one person but for me, there seems to be improvement. I am not willing to take collagen without fortibone.

Thanks for this information. I take Native Path bone health collagen peptides. It has 5g of Fortibone and 2.5g of Verisol which I take once daily. How much Fortibone do you take daily and what brand? I am 135 pounds.

I used Sparkle Wellness collagen for about a year. It only had peptide 1 collagen which is fortibone so I also mixed Verisol, peptide 3. I changed almost 3 months ago to AlgaeCal which has both 5mg of Fortibone and 2.5g of Verisol along with tendon and ligament support from chicken cartilage, which I understand to be the best form of collagen there is.
Here are the ingredients
AlgaeCal Collagen, in a serving of one scoop (12.54g), provides 11g of protein, 45 calories, and 25mg of sodium. It includes various collagen peptides (5g from FORTIBONE®, 5g from FORTIGEL®, and 2.5g from VERISOL®) and 40mg of UC-II® Standardized Chicken Cartilage. The product also lists a typical amino acid profile.
One thing I really appreciate about AlgaeCal is the support group that is comprised of other users and the responses and explanations to questions from the AlgaeCal doctors. It is scary and confusing trying to navigate all the available information so it is important to get science based direction.

Hi,
If you are on FB here is the link https://www.facebook.com/groups/1816921155031085
Did you get a welcome book with your first shipment called Your Bone Health Quick Start Guide? On page 23 there is a contact phone number 877-535-1375. Page 1 makes a really bold statement. They guaranty increased bone density. Page 17 tells you about the guaranty. Of course, they are referring to their Bone Builder Pack, not sure if it also pertains to the collagen.
However, we dont want our money back, we want this to work for us!

I'm considering taking collagen for my bone density along with trying to find a doctor to prescribe Evenity. My Rheumatologist won't prescribe due to black box warning. I do not have cardiac problems. I have terrible collapsing spine vertebrae from L2 to S1. Neurosurgeon won't do surgery until I take osteo med. I'm desperate and afraid of a fracture if not already hairline. Will collagen help until I get meds? I was offered Reclast but I don't think it will work as fast and I'm running out of time. Thanks

When exploring programs and supplements that support osteoporosis and bone health, it's essential to be an informed consumer. Research the qualifications of the practitioner and look for scientific studies on safety and effectiveness of their approaches.

Out-of-pocket programs in particular should be thoroughly researched and vetted. While some therapies may be safely used alongside proven treatments, others may make unsubstantiated claims or exploit fears about conventional medicine. Always approach additional treatments with a balance of optimism and caution.

In particular, be cautious of products or programs that promise quick or miraculous results—if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Finally, remember that experiences shared on Mayo Clinic Connect are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Never delay seeking professional medical guidance because of something you've read in the community. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/about-connect/tab/disclaimer/

It's pricey, but the container is big. Compare the per-ounce cost to other brands.

I just started using this collagen also. It is OsteoNaturals, sold by Dr Keith McCormick, who wrote “Great Bones”.
