Hello needhope and welcome to Connect. It sounds like you are still dealing with a frustrating symptom after your surgery, thank you for sharing that with other members.

I would like to invite back @arletta who experienced something similar to what you are explaining regarding a colectomy and constipation, as well as @wishingforhealth and @gaylordgout who also had a colectomy. In the mean time, you may want to read through their earlier post regarding a colectomy for slow-transit constipation, http://mayocl.in/2f5nXoR, as it may provide some information you may find useful.

@needhope, Did your operating physician give you a timeline on how long it would take to possibly get better? Have you discussed this concern/frustration with your physician?

Hello @needhope,

You've come to a great place for support and information. @cindymw100, @pattiann61, @apriltbo1995, and @emiller2, would you be able to offer more insight, and share your experiences about the j-pouch procedure?

Hello @needhope I see that you just recently joined Mayo Connect. Let me say welcome to this great patient support network! While I have never had the surgery or the disorder that you speak of, I would like to connect you with a Moderator for the Digestive discussion group, @kanaazpereira as well as @safetyshield. I'm sure that they will also welcome you and introduce you to others in the discussion on Digestive disorders. In the meantime, best wishes to you as you seek help for this medical problem.

Hi @needhope. I moved your discussion and combined it with your previous discussion. I did this because our moderators tagged some of members in your previous one and so that all of the messages would be in one place.

I had a colectomy 5 weeks ago, experiencing constipation and severe rectal pain.. I’ve been advised regular diet and more fiber.. Milk of Magnesium and Miralax help temporarily...
