Cleaning/disinfecting while still sick?

Posted by blueislandgirl @blueislandgirl, 2 days ago

Hi all, I keep reading about how we're supposed to clean the house, disinfect surfaces, wash linens, towels, clothes etc. to prevent reinfection. But all that is very difficult when one is feeling quite ill. Obviously frequently touched surfaces are highest priority. I'm curious what your list of high priority items is? Today I'm washing bed linens, towels, etc. It will take all the energy I have. Should I prioritize other things? Thank you so much.

blueislandgirl, Cleaning with COVID is torture! Here was my routine....between naps when recovering....:my daughter & husband cleaned for me when I was so sick with COVID and in the bed. WHEW!

1) I used a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wiped down all surfaces, doorknobs, commode handles,
light switches. I did it when I went into each room. I alternated with Hydrogen Peroxide.

2) Since we quarantined in our family, we each stayed in our room so the other person would not get COVID.
Being the mom, when someone had COVID and I didn't, I wore a mask when I went into check on the family member, set the meds/supplements outside the door on a barstool. I wiped the door knob down when I came
out each time. I threw the mask away each time. After we got well, I threw our pillows away too and bought
new ones.

3) All clothes I washed in All Free & Clear & Lysol laundry sanitizer ....it's about $14. I did not wash the sick family members clothes with other clothes, but separate.

4) Brush your teeth and use Listerine. When you get over COVID, purchase a new toothbrush. I used Listerine
even if I didn't have COVID and another family member had it.

Some of these suggestions were recommended to me from a Nurse Practitioner who worked on the COVID
unit.

Praying for you. I'm so sorry you have this nasty virus.

Thank you so much covidstinks, these are very helpful suggestions!!! Great idea about replacing my toothbrush. The pillows - yikes. That gets expensive but probably a good idea. Thank you!!

That is why we use, and frequently wash, covers on our pillows under the pillow cases. Also, a lot of pillows can be washedmand dried - that's what we did after Covid.
