Cholesterol medication

Posted by maggiemae2 @maggiemae2, Apr 27 8:14am

I have tried several different medications to lower my cholesterol. These medications (statins) helped with my cholesterol but cause terrible body and joint pain. My higher cholesterol is of course partly due to diet but a lot due to family genetics.
Does anyone know of a cholesterol medication that I might try. Thanks!

@crbarefoot he has really high cholestetol and was getting both elevated liver enzymes and muscle pain with elevated CK. He is still on Zetia as well as the Repatha.

@cjval52 My doc took me off statins, too. Nothing to do with not tolerating them. My A-lipoprotein numbers were not budging and Repatha, once a month injection, got my numbers down very low. I also take zetia. My cholesterol numbers were never high, usually 180 total, it’s the lipoprotein numbers that are so high. No side effects from the Repatha - but, dang, the injections are not pleasant 😂

Hi MM2 and all,
I was put on Nexletol (bempedoic acid) Nov ‘24. My cholesterol dropped 50 points in one year. My body cannot tolerate statins and Ezetimibe.
Nov 2024- total cholesterol was 261 mg/dl
Dec 2025- total cholesterol was 211 mg/dl
I’m still a bit high, but these numbers are, by far, the best results I’ve ever received after trying every statin and Ezetimibe with no bad symptoms.
After reading californiazebra’s results from plain oats, these are on my grocery list!
Cheers and good health to all

I always wonder how many people who take statins really know what they do and how they work. Usually we only see complaints here about the side effects. So here is a primer on the topic.
