Changing/evolving tastes over time, post-stroke?

Posted by Scott R L @scottrl, 5 days ago

For those who are several years post-stroke, do you find that your tastes in food, music, entertainment, etc. have changed or evolved?

If you're like me and over 60 years of age, do you wonder if it's due to the stroke or just aging?

In my case, more than seven years later, I find that my taste in music is changing, reverting back to my love of romantic-era classical music; it's all I listen to these days. (That's not a bad thing.)

My taste in food is changing, too. Certain ethnic foods I loved have disappeared from my diet. And food is important to me; eating is the only thing I do that doesn't hurt. (But that's another story.)

My reading interests are changing, too. More history; less junk.

Am I just getting old, or could this be stroke-related? Or both?

Thanks.

Aging reason too. Unlike a fine wine, humans do not improve with age. Other way around.

@wnasholds So true.
Unlike a fine wine, a human can't be kept lying on his side in a cool, dark place.

I’ve discovered when cooking aromatics for Asian food people come in to kitchen saying “that smells so good “ and I can’t smell it at all! And my tasting ability is severely limited. Makes my interest in eating severally affected.

Music: old songs randomly pop into my head.

Food: Need milder, more easily digestible food, and smaller portions. feel full faster, not much appetite.

Dreams: don't dream as much. and they're boring, now.

Entertainment: still like romcoms, but not much time to watch anything, anymore, cause everything else takes me so long, now (like typing with one hand) -- over a year post-stroke. Super-frustrating.

Getting older: Yes! seems like twice as fast, now.

Sleep: don't sleep as well. sometimes wake with pain in affected hand, bad leg cramps or body tension. tired all the time.

Yes, appetite down, dreams boring to weird, but poof, gone upon awakening. Can't recall them.
Music, no changes like Beatles still. Grateful bot lost.
