Cerebellar ataxia
I’m 76 and diagnosed with late onset cerebellar ataxia. I’m wondering what the progression of this disease will look like. Is dementia on the horizon for most patients?

Do you know what type of ataxia you were diagnosed with?
There is episodic and progressive Ataxia.
I’ve only had one episode of ataxia. I walked up to the steps to see a friend. I tried to step up onto the steps, but I couldn’t move either foot up when I tried to turn off to the right to go back to my car, I couldn’t move to the right. Fortunately, I could turn to the left, but I could only go in left hand circles. Eventually, someone saw me and came out and took pity on me and led me to my car and I drove to the hospital where I was admitted.
I believe there are a couple types associated with Dementia.
Do you have balance problems or any other symptoms?

1 ReactionMostly balance problems. Been evaluated for Parkinson's and undergone numerous scans and MRIs. I have motion differences between my right and left hand l and I can do most things. My neurologist seems to be less forthcoming with the course of my disease. I am a retired RN and realize no one can predict how I will progress....but he hasn't even mentioned if this progression is a possibility. Thanks for the ataxia.or info. I've already started viewing some of the convention discussions.
