Central Sleep Apnea at 8900 feet

Posted by jeepguy2012 @jeepguy2012, Jul 9, 2021

My event’s are really high, 30-68 per night. I can’t find a doctor to see. Is this condition treatable at high altitudes? I use a ResMed 10.

Hello @jeepguy2012, Welcome to Connect. According to what I've read, higher elevations do have an affect on patients with sleep apnea. Here's some information I found on the topic:

-- The Effects of Altitude Associated Central Apnea on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Comparative Data from Three Different Altitude Locations in the Mountain West: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3227706/
-- Central Sleep Apnea at High Altitude: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27343103/

Do you mind sharing how long you've had central sleep apnea and how long you have been using the ResMed AirSense 10?

I was diagnosed mid May 2021 and went on ResMed 10 on May 22, 2021. Went high elevation June 10th. I have now returned home and all is fine.
