Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) Entry Requirements

Posted by ret2tus @ret2tus, Mar 9 11:38am

My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about a year and a half ago. We decided to move into an independent living rental community that has assisted living available if/when needed. So far, he hasn't needed any assisted living care. However, we are thinking of buying into a Life Care (CCRC) community so that both his care and mine would be guaranteed as we age and our health declines. Both of us are 78. My concern is how difficult is it to gain entry into a CCRC if someone already has a diagnosis of dementia?

We have bought into new construction at a CCRC. It is independent living apartments 1/2 Mile from the main building where the licensed nursing and memory care areas are.
My husband has moderate cognitive impairment and that was known when we signed up.
They and I are aware that when we move in in 2026, we will need help and I will have to hire caregivers. I will keep us together in the apt until he needs 24/7 care especially at night and for personal care. At that point the plan is for him to go to Memory care.
I hope I can stay healthy. I will be 73 and he will be 78 this year.
Most independent living places have a waiting list and you need to put a refundable deposit down to hold your place.
