Interesting Lorie and thanks.

I have cut back on refined sugar in the last 3 years, and I fast 16 hours/day. This has helped control inflammation from arthritis, primarily in my hands. It's not RA, thankfully. I'll have to check out whether it could be gout.

Since my early 40s, I have been plagued in my major joints by osteoarthritis. I somehow managed to run 25 marathons from age 28 through 45, at least a few under 3 hours. My last marathon was in January 1999, just as the arthritis was making things very, very hard.

I never thought I had a problem with arthritic knees or arthritis period, until I did....... And in just the last 4 years, I've had both knees replaced, right hip, and left shoulder. (Although I do feel fabulous now. Running is over but I spin about 5x/week and do resistance/core training on the other days. At 71, I feel pretty good!)

Thanks for the advice Lorie! Much appreciated.

@heyjoe415 its easy to figure out. get a uric acid test. If it is anything off of normal, you have it. The arthritis in your hands is probably gout. Its an "inflammatory" disease. OA does cause whole-body inflammation. RA is easily recognizable by the negative testing. Stay away from farmed fish, eat a low purine diet, and get on medication. My hands haven't hurt since I went on the Allopurinol. If you have other family members with it then you can count on it! The sugar relationship is also clear: Sugar, particularly fructose and high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), significantly increases gout risk and inflammation by accelerating the production of uric acid, which crystallizes in joints. Consuming two or more sugary drinks daily can raise gout risk by up to 85%. Reducing sugary beverage and food intake is crucial to lowering gout risk and preventing acute flares.

Thanks Charley,

I smoked weed as a teen in the 60s and it was much milder, probably because we smoked leaves, not buds, and it smelled great. I've tried the weed available today, and the THC is far too strong, and the smell is terrible (I used to love the smell of burning weed.....). All I get from today's weed is extreme dry mouth and paranoia. I wish I could find the kind of weed we smoked in the 60s. Any ideas?

CBD is different of course. I will look into it for inflammation, and thanks!

Joe

I agree. This isn’t your father’s weed. Today’s THC levels are uncomfortably high for me as well. I solved this by buying vape cartridges that are half and half THC/CBD from a dispensary and also by growing my own, all the leaf you want. My state allows two plants per household, months and months worth for me.

I would like to know too

A product named Nordic Goddess is 1 to 1. It has a good reputation. It contains St. John’s wort and not recommended for cirrhosis patients. Not that expensive. I think you can buy it on line.

In Pennsylvania Standard Farms and Ilera producers of medical cannabis products offer’s a few different 1:1 THC:CBD, 1:1 THC:CBN tinctures.
Volteran or diclofenac is a topical anti-inflammatory to treat large joint arthritis. I use it on occasion and I take CBD too. They do different things and can be used together but CBD has no anti-inflammatory properties in my opinion.
