Catheter valve vs self catheterization: What did you choose? (male)
Urologist wants me to self catheterize. I would like to use a catheter valve and then night bag. Any comments or suggestions?

Do you know why he prefers self cath?
I preferred self cath myself. Primarily because of in inceased chance of infection with indwelling catheters and comfort.

3 ReactionsI am doing self catheterization, but we damage urethra with a time. I am thinking like you, catheter with valve may be better if we change catheter often ( after 3 days, lesser risk for infection). I think that we can change the catheter with valve by our self too.
My urologist changes my catheter every 4 weeks.
The catheter valve needs to be changed every 5-7 days.
I use a special wipe that they used in the hospital every morning when I’m getting dressed and also every evening just before going to sleep. I was instructed to wipe carefully the tip and opening of my penis where the catheter enters. Then to wipe the catheter from my penis to the stabilization anchor. Do not wipe from the anchor to the penis for health reasons
