Cardiomegaly following right upper lobectomy

Posted by pigeonhead @pigeonhead, Jul 15 4:02pm

Curious if there are people that have experienced some cardiac issues following lung lobectomy. I had a right upper lobectomy for adenocarcinoma in November of last year. My 6 month CT scan showed 4 chamber heart enlargement. My lung function has almost reached pre surgical levels, and yet I often experience shortness of breath which may have a cardiac source. Lung and cardiac function normal prior to surgery; very active....

Hello @pigeonhead, Sorry that you are facing this. It has to be hard to not be back to your pre-surgery activity levels. Are your doctors monitoring the enlargement? Do they think this is related to the surgery, or the cancer?

There is some anecdotal evidence and retrospective analysis that links lobectomy to certain cardiac changes...so we're going with that -hypothesis- I'm being well monitored and we're all hoping the cardiac changes don't worsen, maybe improve? I consider myself very lucky regardless because the cancer was discovered very early. I just felt it could be helpful to share this information in case others are experiencing new cardiac changes after lobectomy. I so appreciate this forum. It's very helpful to feel so not alone! Thank you
