Cancer of the eyelid
Has anyone had a basal or squamous cell on their lower eyelid and what did you have done for it? I am seeing a dermatologist to assess my lesion and am curious to know if anyone knows anything about them?

@baz10, has cancer been confirmed or are you going to the dermatologist to find out if it is cancer?
I had a biopsy done on 10/19/2022 and the dermatology NP said it is a basal cell but the biopsy results should be back in about a week to confirm that.
Hello. First, I am sorry that you developed eyelid cancer. It must be shocking experience for you. I had a growth on my upper eyelid that was biopsied and showed Merkel cell cancer. Fall of 2019. (The doctors have told me that merkle is a rare skin cancer. ). I had a scan to see if cancer cells had spread to lymph nodes. There was no evidence that it had traveled to the lymph system. Praise the Lord. I then had it surgically removed. In December of 19. Then I had 25 treatments of proton beam radiation January and February of 20. I continue to go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester for monitoring and check ups. At each check up I have a full pet scan, a blood test, a full skin check and once a year an Eyelid check. At the time I was diagnosed with the tumor,? they did a merkle cell antibody blood test, it did not show that I had produced antibodies for the cancer. I have not had merkle cell return, but did have a melanoma area removed in Spring of 22. I stay vigilant about checking my skin for changes. I missed the melanoma. The doctor found it. If I have a question about a spot, I take pictures and send it to the dermatologist to get her advice. Meanwhile, I do not go out in the sun unless covered with clothing and sunscreen. When I had surgery to remove the cancer tumor which was 3mm by 3mm, my eyelid lost about 9 mm of skin. Therefore the eyelid has been tight and uncomfortable when I blink. For the last 2 1/2 years I have been very uncomfortable, driving, reading, fine motor a challenge. I’ve been treated for dry and have had the lower eyelid tear duct permanently plugged In order to help with keeping tears in my eye. Unfortunately I’ve had too much irritation and have developed inflammation in the eye and the eyelid. I recently decided to go to a local optometrist that had advertised to help people with dry eyes. He fitted me with a contact that protects my eye from my tight lid. It has completely changed how I feel in a positive way. I am so much more comfortable. I actually can read again. I am so thankful for all of the medical help that I’ve received. Without them, I probably would not be here today. Merkel cell cancer is extremely aggressive. I wish you all the best of luck and will pray for you too. My faith has kept me strong through this trial. Life is hard, God is great.
The biopsy came back as a Basal Cell and I will have a follow-up phone consultation with the Dermatologist nurse next week to talk about MOHS surgery for the lesion. Am Praying a LOT! Thanks for your concern.
Hello. I’m sorry you have cancer, but at least it’s been identified and you’re moving forward with surgery. Sending you and your health care team healing prayers. Stay strong! I read the book, The Bend in the Road, by Dr David Jeremiah when I was waiting for surgery. He was treated at Mayo for cancer, and is such an inspirational writer and speaker. This book sure helped me connect with my faith! Take care of yourself and know God is with you every step of the way.
